Background
Throughout his formative years and into adulthood, Art and Design
have always been a dominant part of Jim's personal and professional life.
He stood behind the viewfinder of his first camera at the age of 11, a
Brownie Hawkeye given to him by his mother, and this began his lifelong
passion for "painting with light". In his teenage years, he was fortunate to
have a father who also took photography quite seriously, and was therefore
able to study darkroom technique in the comfort of his own home,
from simple canister film development, to advanced print making & effects,
while continuing to take any art/photography courses offered in shool.
By the age of 22 he had moved to Florida and purchased his first 35mm SLR,
a Mamiya that traveled with him all over the continental US over the next 7 years,
while working his "day job" as a superintendent for a nationwide commercial
construction company based out of Orlando.
In his thirties, he traded in the Mamiya for a series of Minolta Maxims and really
started to study and refine his knowledge of exposure and composition, as well as
becoming acquainted with, and learning to master computer editing programs
such as Corel Draw!, JASC Paint Shop Pro, and later Adobe Creative Suite.
After a 5 year Hiatus, he made the transition from 35mm to digital and currently
shoots with DSLRs from the Fujifilm Pro line, as these cameras are the undisputed
kings of color and Dynamic Range; As well as the Nikon D2x & D3. Primarily a natural
light photographer through most of his 30 year photographic journey, he stepped in
to a professional studio for the first time in 2009 and fell in love all over again,
studying advanced studio techniques under renowned fashion photographers from Miami,
New York, and Paris.
